Livelihood Initiatives for Empowerment, ShantiniketanANIL KUMAR SARKAR
FOUNDER PRESIDENT (December 30, 1929 -- June 16, 2013)
An educationist, visionary and administrator par excellence, and, above all, a great human being, Professor Anil Kumar Sarkar was equally well known as a great institution builder. He played a key role in the creation of a number of distinguished organizations and institutions and contributed significantly by imparting his valuable ideas, resourcefulness, skill and multi-tasking abilities. At the University of Calcutta, he contributed immensely for more than three and a half decades as teacher, researcher, research guide, administrator, policy advocate and constructive policy critic (1966-1996) until his retirement. He held the high offices of General Secretary and Treasurer in the Asiatic Society Calcutta from mid-1980s to the middle of 1990s and expanded its activities in several new dimensions.
Till his last breath, he had an abiding involvement with a number of organisations, especially with LIFE, the last one established by him, his swansong. As the Founder-President, he chaired the annual general meeting of LIFE for the last time only a few days before his passing away. He has left behind for his flag bearers in this fledgling organization a rich storehouse of his unfulfilled dreams, valuable ideas, lessons and his gospel for moving forward.
CAPTAIN PRADIP Kumar KARMAKAR

After serving 30+ years in the merchant navy, Capt. Karmakar has reluctantly retired and has also very constructively reinvented himself by devoting his time as a payback to society. He has always found love, strength, and solace amid nature and wilderness. His core beliefs lie in hard work, honesty, and uprightness. He always advocates and encourages people around him on eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle choices. Also, most of the days he is seen to tirelessly pick rags and plastics from the neighborhood streets and pond to ensure cleanliness for us as well as the water and aerial creatures.
Interests: Cooking, Sustainable Gardening, Bird watching, Photography and spending time with grandkids.
Dr.Dipankar Saha
Vice President
Dr. Saha is an experienced scientist and has vast experience in coastal resources, natural resources, agriculture, rural development, livelihood development, and food security. He has managed a range of portfolios and projects on development research and implementation. He holds a master’s degree in Zoology and a Ph.D. in Fisheries Science from the University of Calcutta and has spent years in academic and capacity building. Most importantly, he is a spiritual man. A devoted follower of Swami Vivekananda and a strict believer of simple living and high thinking. He brings in his vast knowledge with the simple motive of betterment and advancement in society.

NILENDRA SARKAR
VICE PRESIDENT
Nilendra a successful manager for 25 years, which included oversight of branch offices and head office of MNC. Strong managerial background with senior-level experience and cross-sector exposure.
DIPANKAR GHOSH
SECRETARY
Mr. Ghosh is a community mobilizer. He was always driven towards public well-being. His involvement with politics began during his student life. He was also imprisoned for swaying a political belief. However, his journey towards society’s good was just getting started. He has engaged in various community mobilization programs to turn people and communities into self-reliant. His recent engagement with tribal in Birbhum and Purulia has led him to constructively engage in multiple social & economic welfare and empowerment programs. He orchestrates the implementation of project activities with passion and dedication.

A retired technical professional served in the field of marketing of power plants, Aqua-Therm Engg. Consultancy India Pvt. Ltd based in Chennai. He has a special knack for providing education for poor girl children, Environmental up-gradation, and promotion of sports.

Somindra is an active member of LIFE having a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management in his credit. Served in a US-based Health Care company for 16 years in different capacities including holding the highest position as Area Manager of Eastern India.

Nabinananda Sen, an Economist and a devoted academician of more than four decades. He has retired as an Associate Professor in the Department of Business Management of the University of Calcutta has persuaded his studies from the prestigious Presidency College of Kolkata.

Mr. Datta is a Retd. Telecommunication Engineer served in the Indian Railways.He has engaged himself in social work since his service period. loves social working knowing as the work makes a differences in someone’s life , sometime in small intangible ways sometimes in life changing ways which makes him feel proud as human being .
A traveller by nature particularly in unknown terrain.
DR.PRATAP MUKHOPADHYAY

Dr Pratap Mukhopadhyay is a retired ICAR Scientist( CIFA,Bhubaneswar)
He studied from Univ. of Calcutta (M,Sc , Ph.D in Biochemistry) and was a post -doctoral fellow at Univ.of Stirling, UK and a visiting scientist at INRA, St.Pee-sur-Nivelle in France.
He also worked with IRRI,Los,Banos,Manila for sometime.
After retirement he was in FAO in Kenya and Uganda.
He was also a Visiting Professor & Mentor in Neotia University,Sarisa,Diamond Harbour. Currently ,he is an expert member,Wetland Authority ,West Bengal and a consultant,WBADMIP( World Bank assisted project- West Bengal ,being operated in all the districts of West Bengal.
